Wireless phone companies aim to improve spotty network coverage and add data capacity by turning to “small cell” technology — a strategy that may also enable them to tap unlicensed, Wi-Fi-type radio spectrum in the long run. Crown Castle (CCI) is the cell tower operator most likely to benefit, as it aims to play a large role in small cell deployment by wireless firms.
