Smartphone users bummed that they have to power their devices with an electrical cord should be charged up about a report that forecasts a surge in the use of wireless charging systems. Market research firm IHS Technology predicts that global revenue from wireless charging technology will rise by nearly a factor of 40 by 2018. It sees sales rising from $216 million in 2013 to $785 million this year, and soaring to $8.5 billion in 2018. The market will be fueled by the rising availability of products and a partial resolution of standards conflicts, IHS analyst Ryan Sanderson said in a statement. “Makers of smartphones and tablets increasingly are integrating wireless power functionality directly into their products,” Sanderson said. “Meanwhile, conflicts over standards are being resolved, removing a major barrier to widespread adoption. For consumers, this means easier charging of their mobile devices and the elimination of pesky power cables.” Scalper1 News
