Verizon Communications’ (VZ) stock was up nearly 2% Friday after the phone company raised $15.5 billion in two transactions, bolstering its balance sheet in the wake of a government radio spectrum auction and ending one chapter to one of the telecom industry’s biggest mergers: that of Bell Atlantic and GTE in 2000.
