Verizon Auction Speculation: Could Tab Hit $25B?

Speculation that Verizon Communications (VZ) might have spent well above analysts’ estimates in a government auction of radio spectrum, perhaps as much as $25 billion, is increasing on Wall Street. Verizon spokesman Robert Varettoni declined to comment. The phone company and other bidders are not allow to comment under auction rules.
