Venture capital firms invested $13.9 billion in startup companies in the second quarter, up 39% from Q1 and the highest amount since Q2 2001. California received the largest share of venture funding, accounting for 64% of all dollars invested, or $8.9 billion. The bulk of California investments went into Silicon Valley, according to venture capital research firm CB Insights.
