Lam Research Tops, Guides Up Despite Intel CapEx Cut

Lam Research (LRCX) beat earnings views and guided forecasts higher late Monday despite Intel (INTC) and Taiwan Semiconductor (TSM) capital spending cuts as the chip equipment maker benefits from an industry shift to 3D Nand flash memory. Lam Research earned $1.40 a share excluding various items for the fiscal third quarter ended March 29, beating analyst forecasts by a dime. That’s up 11% from $1.26 a year earlier according to Thomson Reuters.

Taiwan Semiconductor EPS, Sales Beat; Q2 View Misses

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSM) early Thursday reported first-quarter earnings and revenue that topped Wall Street expectations, but its Q2 outlook missed. The Taiwanese chipmaker reported a nearly 50% increase in revenue to NT222 billion, or $7.13 billion (based on the current currency rate of 1 U.S. dollar to 31.12 New Taiwan dollars).
