Windows XP users cling to their old operating system

Just one week before Microsoft ends support for Windows XP, data out Tuesday show that nearly 28% of PC users on the Internet are still running machines with the 12-year-old operating system. Net Applications reported that 27.7% of PCs in March were using Windows XP. It is the No. 2 PC operating system after Windows 7, which has 48.8% of the market. Microsoft’s (STOCK) newest operating system, Windows 8, is on 11.3% of PCs after 17 months on the market, Net Applications says. That includes Windows 8.1, an update designed to fix problems with the original release. The sweeping redesign of the operating system with Windows 8 turned off many PC users. In February, 29.5% of PC users were on Windows XP, 47.3% on Windows 7 and 10.7% on Windows 8, Net Applications said.
