Priceline is the latest tech company to play the name game. Some name changes make a lot of sense, while others are as nonsensical as the hit 1964 song “The Name Game” by Shirley Ellis. Luckily for Priceline’s (PCLN) name change, it was the former and not “Banana Fanna Fo Ficeline.” Priceline on Tuesday changed its official name from Priceline.com to the Priceline Group. It joins a number of companies that have dropped the dot-com from their names. Priceline says the name switch was intended to create a clear distinction between the global Priceline Group business, and the company’s North American travel brand Priceline.com, as IBD reported.
