Marvell Dodges Bullet In Patent Suit; Stock Jumps

Fabless chipmaker Marvell Technology Group (MRVL) announced Tuesday that it was ordered to pay $1.54 billion for patent infringement, but its stock hit a two-year high on the stock market today as analysts said it could have been worse. Late Monday, a federal judge beefed up the $1.17 million award originally set in December 2012, after Carnegie Mellon University argued successfully that Marvell had infringed two of its hard-disk drive patents.

Apple To Face 64-Bit Competition From Android Devices

Chipmaker Marvell Rides Mobile, Storage To Q3 Beat

Marvell Technology (MRVL) stock rose Friday to a 17-month high after the chipmaker reported Q3 results above estimates, boosted by strong demand from mobile, wireless and storage customers. Marvell reported revenue of $931.2 million, above consensus estimates of $870.6 million and up 19% from the year-earlier quarter. That marked its biggest sales jump in three years.
