Megasize Apple iPhone 6 could face production delays

Apple could begin production on a new model iPhone with a larger screen next month, but a second model with a megasize screen might be delayed, Reuters reported Tuesday. Apple’s (AAPL) suppliers will begin mass-producing displays as early as May for an iPhone 6 with a 4.7-inch screen, the news agency said. Supply chain sources told Reuters that a 5.5-inch version could be delayed. Current iPhone 5 handsets have a 4-inch screen. South Korea’s LG Display (LPL) and Japan’s Sharp and Japan Display have been selected to make the smartphone screens, Reuters said . But the use of a new touchscreen display technology for the iPhone 6 could limit early production, it said. The iPhone 6 is expected to debut this September, analysts say. Apple iPad Mini 2 winners include Cirrus Logic, STMicro

Apple’s (AAPL) second-generation iPad Mini tablet was made available for purchase Tuesday and analysts already are tearing it open to see which component makers scored a place in it. Device repair website IFixIt took apart an iPad Mini with Retina display and found many familiar component suppliers represented inside. Two component winners were audio-codec provider Cirrus Logic (CRUS) and motion-sensor provider STMicroelectronics (STM). They have faced heightened competition for that business. Like the larger-screen iPad Air, released on Nov. 1, the iPad Mini 2 features a display from LG Display (LPL), IFixIt said. Reports have speculated that the new iPad Mini will be in short supply because of difficulties in sourcing the 7.9-inch high-resolution display. Sharp and Samsung also are supplying displays for the iPad Mini 2, MacRumors reported.
