The first electric Harley-Davidson: a quieter hog
Hells Angels just froze over. Motorcycle maker Harley-Davidson (HOG) on Thursday introduced its first electric bike, called Project LiveWire. The Milwaukee-based company says Project LiveWire is not a production vehicle yet. The bike is a high-tech marvel, featuring a cutting-edge engine, “tire shredding acceleration,” a touch-screen color display, LED lighting and a “muscular” profile. LiveWire replaces the company’s distinctive “chug” gas-engine sound with a science-fiction movie buzz and whir. The company clearly spent a lot of time and effort coming up with what the bike would sound like. (Check out this YouTube video to hear for yourself.) “The sound is a distinct part of the thrill,” Harley-Davidson Chief Marketing Officer Mark-Hans Richer said in a statement. “Think fighter jet on an aircraft carrier.
