GoPro stock gets lift from fifth bullish report

Action camera maker GoPro (GPRO) got another vote of confidence Tuesday with a bullish report from Piper Jaffray. Piper Jaffray analyst Erinn Murphy gave GoPro stock an overweight rating with a price target of 55. She assumed coverage of the stock from analyst Sean Naughton, who rated it as neutral. Murphy’s assessment marks the latest in a series of positive Wall Street reports since late March. Other research outfits putting out bullish GoPro reports lately include Baird, Dougherty, FBN and Pacific Crest. GoPro stock was up 3.5%, above 46, in afternoon trading on the stock market today. GoPro needs ‘video-editing software breakthrough’

I f GoPro (GPRO) is going to fend off competition in the action camera market, it will need to buck up its video editing software, Pacific Crest Securities analyst Brad Erickson said in a report Sunday. GoPro’s hardware offerings look good, but software is a key longer-term question for the company, Erickson said. A “video-editing software breakthrough” could be needed to see an expansion in its earnings multiple, he said. “We believe video-editing software development is the key to unlocking an accelerating (total addressable market) expansion thesis for the longer term as the action camera space will likely become more competitive over time,” he said.
