Google’s acquisition of Nest Labs, a maker of smart thermostats and smoke alarms, should be a “wake-up call” to Apple, says Global Equities Research analyst Trip Chowdhry. Nest, founded by former Apple product designers, was long seen in Silicon Valley as a perfect fit for Apple. French vent their dislike of U.S. tech firms on Uber

Recent attacks on Uber cars in Paris provide more anecdotal evidence that the French hate foreign competition and especially U.S. tech companies. Striking Paris taxi drivers attacked and vandalized at least a dozen cars booked through Uber, Bloomberg Businessweek and Rude Baguette reported Monday. Cab drivers are protesting increased competition from private car services. In a statement, San Francisco-based Uber strongly condemned the violence against its partner drivers and their cars. The attacks included broken windows, slashed tires, eggings and assaulted drivers. Uber makes a mobile app that connects passengers with drivers of vehicles for hire and ridesharing services. The French government and domestic companies have long had it in for U.S. companies entering their market. Last week, French data protection authority CNIL fined search giant Google (GOOG) 150,000 euros ($204,000) over its unified privacy policy.
