Kendall and Kylie Jenner video game could break seventh seal

The biblical apocalypse is a step closer to reality with the announcement that reality TV stars Kendall and Kylie Jenner are getting their own video game. The famous-for-being-famous sisters are following in the footsteps of their maternal half-sister Kim Kardashian, who is featured in the hit mobile game “Kim Kardashian: Hollywood.” Glu Mobile (GLUU), the company that kicked off the celebrity video game trend with the Kardashian game, is producing the as-yet-untitled Kendall and Kylie game. Glu expects to launch the game in late 2015 for Apple (AAPL) and Google (GOOGL) Android devices. “Featuring the voices, likenesses, and creative influences of Kendall and Kylie, the game will allow players to interact with the sisters as friends and mentors as they work to realize their creative and career aspirations,” Glu said in a press release Tuesday. The Jenner sisters have risen from reality TV fame to become globally recognized personalities and…

Katy Perry tie-up adds fireworks to Glu Mobile stock

M obile game publisher Glu Mobile (GLUU) saw its shares skyrocket like a firework on Thursday after the company announced it is making a video game featuring pop singer Katy Perry. The game will feature Perry’s voice, likeness and personality and will launch in late 2015 for Apple (AAPL) iOS and Google (GOOGL) Android smartphones and tablets, Glu said in a press release late Wednesday. The announcement came three days after Perry earned positive reviews for her bubbly halftime performance at Super Bowl XLIX. “We anticipate that Katy’s significant global audience, including more than 170 million fans on social media, will make her a strong gaming partner for Glu,” Glu CEO Niccolo de Masi said in a statement. Glu signed a five-year partnership with Perry. Glu stock was up 30% in late afternoon trading on the stock market today, near 5. Glu already has found success with a…

In the hits-driven mobile video game business, King Digital Entertainment (KING) and Glu Mobile (GLUU) are leading the pack. Since September 2013, only eight games have launched that have spent at least three months among the top 20 grossing U.S. games for Apple’s (AAPL) iPhone. Half of those best-selling games have been from King or Glu, Cowen analyst Doug Creutz said in a note Wednesday. King produced “Farm Heroes Saga” and “Bubble Witch 2 Saga,” while Glu came out with “Deer Hunter 2014” and “Kim Kardashian: Hollywood.” “We think these successes are representative of the better game development, marketing and support that King and Glu are able to deliver relative to their peers,” Creutz said. October sales data point to King and Glu as clear leaders in the mobile games space, he says. Last month, King held a quarter of the top 20 games on the iPhone and Google’s (GOOGL)…
