AT&T Eyes Wireless Video With DirecTV, Content Deals
AT&T’s deal to acquire satellite TV broadcaster DirecTV Group for $48.5 billion will make it the only provider of both nationwide pay-TV and wireless phone services, but melding those two businesses into a new moneymaker — mobile video — poses challenges. AT&T (T) on Sunday announced an agreement to acquire DirecTV (DTV) for $95 per share, 70% in stock and 30% in cash. DirecTV shareholders would own 15% of AT&T if regulators approve the merger.
