Dish Stock Boosted By Auction Even If CBS Blacks Out

The programming dispute between broadcaster CBS (CBS) and Dish Network (DISH) is unlikely to take a toll the satellite TV broadcaster’s stock, which has been elevated by the ongoing government auction of wireless spectrum, says a Citigroup analyst. The value of spectrum Dish already owns is likely to rise as the auction bids rise. The current contract under which Dish pays CBS for rights to broadcast shows from 14 local TV stations expires today.

Dish Stock Rises As Wireless Auction Raises $16.4B

Wireless Auction Raises $4.7B, Still Far To Go

The government’s AWS-3 auction of radio spectrum has raised $4.7 billion through seven rounds, nearly half the Federal Communications Commission’s minimum target but well below some estimates of final results. AT&T (T), Verizon Communications (VZ) and T-Mobile US (TMUS) are among 70 registered potential bidders, as is satellite TV broadcaster Dish Network (DISH). The Advanced Wireless Service No. 3 auction started on Nov. 13 and could last weeks.
