SolarCity, Canadian Solar ‘Attractive’ In Volatility

Recent solar market volatility has created “attractive buy points” for SolarCity (SCTY) and Canadian Solar (CSIQ), a Stifel Nicolaus analyst wrote in initiating coverage of the duo with buy ratings. SolarCity stock, however, was down 3.5% in afternoon trading in the stock market today while Canadian Solar stock was down 2.5%, in another down day for the overall market. IBD’s 23-company Energy-Solar group was down more than 3% Thursday afternoon.

Canadian Solar Yieldco Plans Waver, Stock Plunges

Canadian Solar (CSIQ) stock plunged 18% Wednesday after the solar panel maker revealed late Tuesday that market “volatility” might force the company to abandon its yieldco spinoff plans. The company also guided down for Q3, citing resources that may need to be held back should the yieldco ultimately launch.
