Apple finally reaches China Mobile iPhone deal

Apple (AAPL) stock was up 3% in midday trading Monday on news that the iPhone maker had finally struck a distribution deal with China Mobile (CHL), the world’s largest wireless carrier. The deal was widely expected, and several times in recent weeks news organizations had jumped the gun and announced that the Apple-China Mobile deal had been signed when it wasn’t. But on Sunday, Apple announced that it had entered into a multiyear agreement to offer the iPhone on China Mobile’s 4G and 3G networks starting on Jan. 17. Caso based his assumptions on supply chain checks that indicated “a significant production shift from iPhone 5C to 5S.” March quarter production also is trending ahead of expectations, as Apple builds inventory to meet iPhone 5S demand and to prepare for an expected distribution deal with China Mobile (CHL), he said.

China Aims For 4G Wireless Exports After 3G Flop

China’s wireless service providers finally are set to launch 4G data networks, later than most carriers worldwide. But it’ll be worth the wait for them: The government is expected to dole out radio spectrum essentially for free. Wireless firms in the U.S., Europe, India and other markets typically spend billions of dollars to acquire airwaves in government auctions. Not so in China. Its government granted China Mobile (CHL), China Unicom (CHU) and
