Big-screen Apple iPhone will be huge in Turkey

While U.S. consumers are split over large-screen smartphones or phablets, short for phone-tablets, they’re a huge deal in countries like Turkey and Indonesia. Phablets have screen sizes of 5- to 7-inches, compared with the 4- to 5-inch displays of conventional smartphones. A global consumer survey by Accenture (ACN) released Monday found especially strong demand for phablets in emerging countries. Accenture polled 23,000 people in 23 countries about their preferences in consumer electronics. In the U.S., 40% of respondents indicated a preference to buy a phablet. In Germany, 30% of consumers favored phablets. Only 19% of respondents in Japan preferred a phablet. In some developing markets, consumers had a strong preference for big-screen smartphones. In Turkey, 64% of respondents favored a phablet over a conventional smartphone.
