Some Retail Groups Hang Tough Amid Soft Consumer Spending

Consumer spending has been lackluster in recent months. Just last week, the Commerce Dept. reported that spending unexpectedly dipped 0.1% in July, the first monthly drop since January. The level of consumer spending is important, since it accounts for two-thirds of economic activity. Despite this tough spending environment, not all retail groups are down in the dumps.
