Samsung worried about Apple’s upcoming phablet

The upcoming release of Apple’s (AAPL) first phablet must have Samsung shaking in its boots. Seoul-based Samsung has had the phablet market largely to itself with its Galaxy Note line of big-screen smartphones. But not for long. Apple is poised to unveil two iPhone 6 models at a press event on Tuesday: a 4.7-inch version and a 5.5-inch version. The larger model falls into a category between phones and tablets, hence the name phablet. The current iPhone 5 series has a 4-inch screen. Samsung was so concerned about the iPhone 6 event that it held a hastily organized media event on Wednesday to announce its latest phablets: the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge. Its event seemed “rushed” and “underwhelming,” Cantor Fitzgerald analyst Brian White said in a report Thursday.
