Samsung remained the leader in global smartphone shipments in the third quarter, but Apple (AAPL) showed a much stronger growth rate, boosted by new iPhone models. Manufacturers shipped 355.2 million smartphones in the third quarter, up 6.8% from the year-ago quarter, according to research firm IDC.
