S amsung isn’t going to cede the phablet market to Apple (AAPL) without a fight. The South Korean consumer electronics company reportedly plans to release its next phablet, short for phone-tablet, in July to compete with Apple’s popular big-screen iPhone 6 Plus. Samsung usually debuts with its latest Galaxy Note smartphones in September. But it plans to bring out its next-generation phablet, the Galaxy Note 5, more than a month earlier to get the jump on Apple’s next phablet, the rumored iPhone 6S Plus, according to Korean news outlet WhoWired Korea. Samsung’s Galaxy Note had the large-screen smartphone market mostly to itself until Apple debuted the iPhone 6 Plus last September. Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus in September. Those handsets are rumored to have Force Touch displays, improved cameras and speedier processors.
