Polycom (PLCM) stock retreated Friday, a day after activist investor Elliott Management disclosed it had a major stake in the videoconferencing company and called on its board to merge with a wireless telecom provider. Shares of Polycom, whose top rivals include heavyweights Cisco Systems (CSCO) and Hewlett-Packard (HPQ), were down 4% in early afternoon trading in the stock market today, near 12.80.
