NXP cashes in on Apple digital wallet in iPhone 6

Apple (AAPL) reportedly is adding digital wallet capabilities to its upcoming iPhone 6. And that’s fattening the wallets of investors in NXP Semiconductors (NXPI). Apple is working with Dutch chipmaker NXP to add near-field communications (NFC) technology to the iPhone 6, which would enable owners of the device to pay by wirelessly connecting to payment terminals or ticketing systems, the Financial Times reported. NXP would provide the NFC chips chips for the iPhone 6. NXP stock gapped up to an all-time high Friday of 69.50 on the news. But the enthusiasm faded and the stock was up just 1.5%, near 68, in late-morning trading on the stock market today. Apple stock was up a fraction.
