Netflix ahead of target for Q4 international subscribers

Internet television service Netflix (NFLX) got a lift Tuesday from a report that said it may have added nearly 3 million paying subscribers outside the U.S. so far this quarter. Netflix stock rose 3% to 352.31 on the news. But shares are well off their peak of 489.29, reached on Sept. 9, a month before it reported disappointing Q3 results and gave current-quarter guidance below views. It ended the third quarter with 53.1 million streaming worldwide, including 15.8 million outside the U.S. For Q4, Netflix has forecast adding 2.15 million net new international subscribers and 1.85 million domestic subscribers. Those numbers include people on free trial subscriptions. U.K.-based Digital TV Research estimates that Netflix has added almost 3 million new paying subscribers in international markets this quarter, the Hollywood Reporter said Tuesday.
