Microsoft (MSFT) is well-positioned to gain market share in cloud computing as more corporate customers choose a hybrid approach for their information technology needs, Pacific Crest Securities analyst Brendan Barnicle said in a report Thursday. “Increasingly, enterprise customers are seeking to move workloads to the public cloud while keeping more critical data on-premise,” Barnicle said. “This combination is known as a ‘hybrid cloud,’ and (research firm) Gartner expects it to become the majority of enterprise deployments by 2017.” Microsoft’s Azure is positioned to take share of spending in hybrid cloud deployments, Barnicle said. “Hybrid cloud deployments offer numerous advantages for enterprise customers, including backup, disaster recovery and archiving, among others. While more complex to manage, hybrid clouds are likely to grow as a percentage of total cloud deployments in the next two to three years,” he said.
