Microsoft expands Surface availability as losses mount

Microsoft (MSFT) isn’t letting a sea of red ink get in the way of its hopes of gaining a sizable presence in the tablet computer market.  The Redmond, Wash.-based company on Wednesday announced that it will launch its Surface Pro 3 tablet in 25 new markets starting Aug. 28. Microsoft currently sells the device in the U.S., Canada and Japan. But at the end of the month, the tablet will be available in countries across Europe and Asia, including the the U.K., Germany, France, Spain, China, Taiwan, South Korea and Australia. Microsoft also is making the new Surface Pro 3 Docking Station available in the U.S. starting Aug. 18 and the remaining markets by the end of September. The $200 accessory can transform the Surface Pro 3 into a desktop PC by providing access to peripherals like monitors, wired networks, speakers, printers and more.
