Lenovo solidifies grip on PC market

China-based Lenovo extended its lead in the personal computer field in the first quarter, growing at a double-digit pace while the overall market declined. Lenovo shipped nearly 13 million PCs in Q1, up 10.5% from a year earlier, research firm IDC reported late Wednesday. Meanwhile, overall industry PC shipments dropped 4.4% to 73.4 million units. Lenovo was the No. 1 PC vendor in Q1 with 17.7% market share, up from 15.3% a year earlier, IDC said. Lenovo surpassed Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) to become the top PC company in world in Q2 2013.
