Google Android gaining on Apple iOS in mobile ad share

Google’s Android operating system continues to close the gap with Apple’s iOS in mobile advertising revenue, while its share of impressions is now almost double that of iOS, a study by Opera Mediaworks shows. Google’s (GOOGL) Android accounted for 57.6% of mobile Internet traffic worldwide in the third quarter, up from 31.3% in the same quarter last year, Opera Mediaworks said in its quarterly State of Mobile Advertising report. Apple’s (AAPL) iOS accounted for 30.2% of mobile Internet traffic in Q3, down from 44% a year earlier. Android overtook iOS in volume of Internet impressions on mobile devices earlier this year. Now it’s threatening to overtake iOS in mobile advertising revenue. Apple’s iOS took 51.2% of mobile ad revenue in Q3, up from 49.5% a year ago. But Android grew at a much faster pace.
