Apple (AAPL) does have the potential to make some coin from Microsoft’s (MSFT) new Office for iPad, contrary to an analyst report Thursday. But whether those software sales will be significant is an open question. Most agree the real benefit to Apple is in more tablet sales. Microsoft (MSFT) introduced Office apps for Apple ‘s (AAPL) iPad tablets at an event Thursday in San Francisco. The apps, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, will be available under a “freemium” business model. The apps will be free to download and use for reading and presenting documents, but people will need a subscription to Microsoft’s Office 365 cloud computing service to create and edit documents. In a report Thursday, UBS analyst Steven Milunovich said he suspected that Apple wouldn’t benefit from Office for iPad software sales because it is a subscription service like Netflix (NFLX) or Pandora (P). Apple, however, confirmed late Thursday that Office 365 is being offered as an in-app purchase to users of the free Office apps. If users purchase Office 365 in that manner, Apple would get its standard 30% share of the sale through its App Store.   Scalper1 News
