It seems natural that EMC co-founder Richard Egan would shoot for the stars, given his involvement in the Apollo space program, where he first became an expert in computer memory. Egan and a college roommate, Roger Marino, founded EMC (EMC) in 1979. Early on, they sold office furniture to raise cash for their real goal: selling memory boards that plugged into minicomputers built by Prime Computer, IBM and others. EMC went public in 1986.
