Microchip Technology (MCHP) confirmed late Tuesday its $3.56 billion agreement to buy chipmaker Atmel (ATML) and released preliminary fiscal Q3 sales and earnings that narrowly topped Wall Street views. Microchip stock was up nearly 1% in after-hours trading Tuesday, after its announcements. It had risen 2.9% in the regular session, to 41.70.
