Cyber cash registers rang less loudly on Christmas Day, as traffic slowed after a flood of early season discounts prodded more people to avoid being procrastinators. U.S. online sales rose 8.3% on Thursday vs. Dec. 25, 2013, just half the 16.5% year-over-year jump last Christmas, says IBM’s (IBM) Smarter Commerce, which tracks sales from 800 websites in the U.S. Online sales growth also tumbled on Thanksgiving Day, Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
