Despite brisk sales of the latest generation video game hardware and software, overall U.S. retail sales of new video game products dipped in December, dragged down by declines in older generation products. Retail sales of new video game hardware, software and accessories slipped 1% year over year last month to $3.25 billion, the NPD Group reported late Thursday. It was the third straight month of declining sales in the category. The NPD figures do not include sales of used game products, rentals or digital sales, such as game downloads and subscriptions.
