FRANKFURT–The supervisory board of German pharmaceuticals and chemicals company Bayer AG will meet on Sep. 14 to discuss further steps in its takeover battle with Monsanto Co., German newspaper Rheinische Post said Sunday in a pre- release of the article, citing company sources.
The discussions will include an improved offer for the U.S. agrochemicals giant, as well as the possibility of a hostile bid, the newspaper said. Monsanto in July rejected Bayer’s $ 125 per share, or roughly $ 65 billion, takeover proposal, but indicated it was open to continuing talks.
A spokesman at Bayer declined to comment.
