Baidu joins Apple, Microsoft in virtual assistant sector

Add Baidu (BIDU) to the list of companies that want to play a big role in speech-based user interfaces for computers and consumer electronics. The Chinese Internet search giant has launched a virtual personal assistant called Duer that will let users complete tasks by speaking into their smartphones, CNBC reported Tuesday.
