ARM Holdings Unveils Enhanced Smartphone Chip Design

ARM Holdings (ARMH) unveiled a new chip for smartphones and other mobile devices that it claims is significantly faster and uses less power, sending the stock up Wednesday. ARM Holdings said in a press release late Tuesday that its new Cortex A-72, or “Maya,” processor design for mobile devices is faster, uses about 75% less energy and has been licensed to more than 10 companies, including MediaTek, Rockchip and HiSilicon Technologies.
