Apple’s Mac Pro finally arrives and it ain’t cheap

Apple (AAPL) will begin selling its new high-end professional desktop computer, the Mac Pro, online Thursday, the company announced Wednesday. The product is notable for its radical design and that it is assembled in the U.S. The computer, targeted at creative professionals, starts at $2,999. The Mac Pro features the latest Intel (INTC) Xeon processors, dual workstation-class AMD (AMD) graphics processors, all-flash storage and ultrafast memory chips. The computer is designed around a unified thermal core and is housed in a cylindrical aluminum enclosure that is just 9.9 inches tall. The Mac Pro is designed for creative professionals like graphic designers, animators and video editors. It can edit ultra-high-definition 4K video while rendering effects in the background, the company said. While the desktop computer supports 4K displays, Apple isn’t currently selling one.
