Apple’s (AAPL) short interest dropped more than 30% in mid-December to its lowest level since January. According to Nasdaq.com, some 53.67 million shares in Apple were short as of Dec. 15, down from 78.2 million on Nov. 28. Short sellers borrow shares and sell them in the expectation of a price drop, after which they buy them back at a lower price, return them to the lender, and pocket the difference.
