Apple blunder could impact iPhone 6 supply this fall

Apple component suppliers are scrambling to make enough screens for the upcoming iPhone 6 after Apple realized it goofed in its product design, Reuters reported Friday. Wanting to make the thinnest smartphone possible, Apple tried to get away with using a single layer of backlight film for the display, instead of the standard two layers, for its 4.7-inch screen handset, the wire service said. But the configuration with a single layer of backlight film was not bright enough, Reuters said. The backlight helps illuminate the display. Apple (AAPL) put display panel production on hold for parts of June and July in order to redesign the screen, two supply chain sources told Reuters.
