Android Smashes Apple, Windows In Q2 Phone Shipments

Google’s (GOOGL) Android operating system in Q2 continued to gain market share from Apple’s iOS and others in the smartphone business, as it moved into more lower-priced handsets for emerging markets. Android vendors shipped 255.3 million smartphones in Q2, up 33.3% from the same period last year and accounting for 84.7% of worldwide smartphone shipments, market research firm IDC said Thursday.
