Apple reportedly has agreed to settle an antitrust case stemming from its efforts to create a viable e-books competitor to Amazon.com, while market leader Amazon is making headlines for strong-arming book publishers. Apple (AAPL) has struck a settlement with plaintiffs in a class-action lawsuit over claims that it overcharged consumers for e-books by working with publishers to establish its e-book download store, the Wall Street Journal reported late Monday. The “agreement in principle” could unravel depending on a decision from a federal appeals court over whether to strike down last year’s ruling by a federal judge that Apple colluded with five major publishers to drive up e-book prices, the Journal said.
