LAS VEGAS — At the International CES show in Las Vegas this week, consumer electronics manufacturers threw a lot of curves at attendees, especially with innovative product designs. The massive five-day tech show, which ended Friday, broke records in terms of exhibitor floor space used. The Consumer Electronics Association, which produces the show, said more than 3,200 companies covered over 2 million net square feet of exhibit space. The previous record was set last year at 1.92 million net square feet. Attendance was expected to surpass 150,000 people. Major product categories at the show included Ultra HD televisions; wearable technology for fitness, health and other applications; 3D printers; connected cars; and smart home appliances. Here are five key takeaways from the 2014 CES. 1. Curved Displays Whether consumers want them or not, the major TV manufacturers are coming out with curved-screen sets. Industry officials say the concave-shaped televisions provide a more cinematic and immersive experience. Coupled with Ultra HD, or 4K, video, which has four times the resolution and clarity of today’s HD video, a curved screen can provide an almost 3D-like effect. Scalper1 News
