26% of PC users still on Windows XP

Despite months of warnings that Microsoft (MSFT) was ending support for Windows XP after April 8, 26% of PCs on the Internet are still using the 12-year-old operating system. The latest usage figures from Net Applications, out Thursday, show that XP users are a stubborn bunch. The percentage of PC users with Windows XP only dropped slightly more than one percentage point between March and April. Windows XP remains the second-most popular PC operating system in the world, accounting for 26.3% of users in April, down from 27.7% in March, Net Applications said. The top PC operating system is Windows 7, which has 49.3% market share, up from 48.8% in March. Microsoft’s newest operating system, Windows 8, is No. 3.
